Jose d´Almeida and Maria Flores

The duo Jose d’Almeida and Maria Flores are based in Lisbon, Portugal.

In the beginning was painting ... José D'Almeida and Maria Flores started independently in the way creative world of painting (both curriculum and some recognition in this area). Her talent and training for Academic and calling him by the area of graphic arts and pure (vocation) soul devotion by artistic expression.

Yesterday / Today and in parallel with their individual forays into the world of painting, photography emerges not only as a unifying link in the sphere of his personal life as well as the route / existence of the two as artists in the world and to the world, shaping, expanding consensus and projecting in their works their sensitivities and their very personal visions of the worlds and their "stuff".
It was born in unison a new project made the "four hands" and the exchange of media screen verses and photographic paper in a style already pre-conventionalized as "art photography".
Not considering self-photographers in the more technical sense of the word fundamentalist but artists use this support to mirror their "universus dream" in the form of allegories.

As Man Ray said "I only know one thing: the way to express myself one way or another. Photography gives me the means, through a much simpler and faster than painting"

The works are in essence stories that will self-staged within a scenic and real time. Care of the elements / symbolic objects are arranged in a constructive and are its cornerstone, (those objects in much of the time are conceived as plant / object solely for the purpose of the photographs in question, that the vital need to think and also feel with your hands). The thing-object thus acquires a new symbolic experience, another reason to exist, renewed in the compositions "theatrical".
Across the projects are the thin line between the dream almost visionary, magical lucidity and critical, even satirical laughable, humorous in some of their work. It is also remarkable the role interventionist policy and socially speaking, or a new form of re-interpret the aesthetic concepts of the Baroque ... and timeliness of the facts. Philosophical and symbolic of course, metaphorical, allegorical and poetic of course, tweaking some consciences ... almost always.
